One criminal's off to jail, but what about the politicians?
Saturday's paper, but I'm not 100% sure.
One criminal's off to jail, but what about the politicians?
Now that Madoff is going to jail, I want to know when the Republicrat
politicians are going to serve time for their mismanagement of the
fruits of my labor. As a Libertarian in my 30s, I know I will never
see a dime of what they take from me via scams such as Social
Insecurity.

After the Honeymoon's Over: A Couple's Chemical Reactions Studied
I'm conflicted on whether humans are truly wired to stay together or not. I would like to think we are. But that is my idealism talking.
I keep hearing about how people who have been married for a long time are very tired of each other which to me is a depressing thought. I look at my own parents and don't understand why anyone would want to live with someone they constantly argue with.
I really love living in my house alone, but a good talk and cuddle with my man is pure heaven.
This research gives me some hope.

Dear Governor Sanford,
I have been an ardent supporter of yours. I donated money to your reform organization in appreciation of your objection to the Federal stimulus strings.
I am very disappointed that you could not show restraint in other areas. You have flushed your bright career right down the toilet.
You sound like a very torn, confused person. I can relate to that feeling, but you have to think about how everything affects others in everything you do. Otherwise you could lose everything.
I wish the best for your family and the state of SC.

Is Osama Bin Laden Alive or Dead?
Seems very odd, if you believe he's dead, that we're still getting reports of Bin Laden's "threats." Either the US gov and media are incompetent, some political insiders are secret friends of his, and/or he is being used as an imaginary "boogeyman."
A trip to Wikipedia has more about his reported death.
On the other hand, we couldn't find Eric Robert Rudolph in the mountains. This article on Bin Laden's #2 illustrates how good he could be at hiding.

Motorhome Diaries Comes to Charlotte
From the web site:
"The Motorhome Diaries is the story of three friends who took to the road in April 2009 to search for freedom in America. Along the way the friends — Jason, Pete and Adam — interact with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and viewpoints at college campuses, homes, businesses and organizations that are united by one thing: increasing individual freedom and responsibility and decreasing the scope of government."
Come greet them!

My Latest: Let businesses decide to go non-smoking

VOICE OF THE PEOPLE -- May 18
Let businesses decide to go non-smoking
The proposed smoking ban for the city of Fort Mill makes as much sense as the leash law for cats. It's illogical, unfair and unenforceable.
It's illogical and unfair because it will violate the property rights of a select few. Let me remind those in office that they are still here to uphold the Constitution by protecting individual rights, not take them away. In a constitutional republic such as ours, the rights of the minority are to be protected against the whims of the mob majority.
Sure, smokers should be respectful of others' breathing space. They should not be blowing smoke where it isn't welcome.
Nonsmokers like me have every right to patronize the well-marked businesses that already create a smoke-free environment. Right now, these businesses have a competitive advantage. With a smoking ban they will lose that advantage.
We can also complain to the smoker or to the business owner if the smoke is bothersome, and we can vote with our dollars and go somewhere else. What happened to the concept of talking to your neighbor and working things out?
From Town Manager David Hudspeth's own admission, this law won't be actively enforced, so this is clearly more about appearances than anything. From the sound of it, it will only apply to people who aren't in the council's good graces. This is a decision for business owners, not someone who wouldn't have a clue about what's best for a particular location.
I have yet to see someone drop dead because of secondhand smoke inhalation. A large number of factors including diet determine the outcome of our health. When we put government in the middle of issues like this, it removes the proactive resolve we citizens really need to have to work together and take responsibility for our own health.
I'd rather not live in a world where everything is “someone else's fault.”

Bless You Governor Sanford!
When I went shopping for a home last year, I purchased one in SC because of lower taxes and the fact that our state was not participating in Real ID like NC. It also didn't hurt that my employer moved across the border to Fort Mill a few years before.
I am a 30+ year-old working single mother and admittedly voted for Bill Clinton. In 2000, I read Harry Browne's book, "Why Government Doesn't Work" and have been a libertarian ever since.
I finally realized how much more waste there is than I had previously realized in our government. The Social Security Ponzi scheme had always burned me up, and this added fuel to the fire.
Since then I have truly appreciated those few politicians who stand for individual liberty and fiscal restraint. You sir, are one such individual.
I am very proud to call you my governor. Thank you for standing up to the Federal mandates, and thank you for educating everyone on the bad deal that is the stimulus.
I notice your web site only lists a PO Box. I would have liked to send you some roses, but I am sure you may have security reasons for listing just that address.
So in lieu of flowers I've donated $50.00 to Carolinians for Reform. Words cannot express my appreciation to you for standing up for what's right.
Bless You,

Ditto THAT! Hooray for Sanford!
Whereas, Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina has attempted during his tenure to guide the state in a fiscally responsible direction; and
Whereas, Governor Sanford stood up for personal privacy in leading the opposition to the Real ID Act; and
Whereas, Governor Sanford has correctly interpreted the consequences of accepting Federal bailout funds; and
Whereas, neither the Democratic nor Republican leadership of the South Carolina General Assembly has supported Governor Sanford in his efforts to fight government waste and usurpation of state prerogatives by the Federal Government; therefore
Be it resolved, the South Carolina Libertarian Party commends Governor Sanford for his actions and thanks him for his courageous and principled stand for liberty.

JLF: A Lucky Few Commuters Gain, but Taxpayers Pay for Charlotte's Light Rail

RALEIGH -- Taxpayers are picking up more than 90 percent of the tab for a lucky few commuters riding Charlotte's LYNX light-rail line, despite the trains' limited public benefit for traffic congestion, air quality, or land use. That's a key finding in a new John Locke Foundation Policy Report.
"When you combine both operating and capital costs, the total cost per trip on Charlotte's LYNX line is about $6.90, and the weighted average fare is about 60 cents per trip," said the report's lead author, David Hartgen, Emeritus Professor of Transportation Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. "That means the taxpayer is subsidizing about $6.30 of every trip taken on the LYNX line. Riders are paying just 8.7 percent of the cost."

Never in my life...
Well, I think I am going to return them all with a note saying, "take me off your list." They can eat the cost.
I registered Republican to make sure I could vote for Ron Paul in the Republican primary. It's about time to switch perhaps. Need to think on that.
What I despised most was getting a "Liberty for America" newsletter from former Libertarian presidential nominee hopeful George Phillies. He's trying to air the Libertarian National Committee's dirty laundry from a sore loser's perspective to (I assume) many Libertarians.
You know what?
I don't need that kind of garbage in my mail box. I support my local Libertarian Party, and whoever I deem worthy. That's enough for me.
I already heard all the issues with the LNC, and I don't care what Phillies thinks. No organization is perfect, and it's totally pointless to support the inconsequential Boston Tea Party, who is trying to steal all of the success away from the Libertarian Party.
And if rumors about Phillies bringing up Mary Ruwart's out-of-context stand on child pornography from her book is correct, he is just another political sleezebag. It is enough that he allowed himself to be on the state ballots in NH and MA and claimed he was "just standing in," when Barr was the Libertarian nominee. Furthermore, his rants against Ron Paul and Bob Barr are hateful.
If you have to be such a sore loser, try to keep it to yourself, else you lose any respect you once had, George.
